Genesis Health System Selects Orion Health Rhapsody Integration Engine for Efficient eGate Migration Path
SANTA MONICA, CA. December 16, 2010 – Genesis Health System, serving a 10-county, bi-state region in Iowa and Illinois, has selected the Orion Health™ Rhapsody Integration Engine as the organization’s new platform to migrate, manage, and streamline message exchange between 75 clinical and business systems. Rhapsody Integration Engine will replace their current solution, Sun Microsystem’s eGate.

Tina Turner-Myers, software development supervisor at Genesis Health System states, “We need a reliable data integration platform that supports newer technology capabilities such as secure FTP and database or email connectivity. Rhapsody Integration Engine provides these capabilities, enables quicker uptime in the event of a crash or failure, and is a foundation for health data information exchange projects.”

Genesis Health System’s previous integration engine did not support newer operating systems used in other parts of the facility. Rhapsody’s open standards supports new operating systems, runs on a Windows platform and can be implemented without rewriting existing code. Rhapsody was also selected for its ability to provide a broad set of monitoring capabilities and for its easy to use drag and drop functionality. In addition, Rhapsody provides a migration tool set to enable a seamless, step by step process away from eGate, significantly reducing migration time.

Orion Health President of North America, Paul Viskovich says, “Hospitals and health organizations need to be proactive in replacing sun-setting integration engines and view that purchase as opportunity to build a platform for the future. Rhapsody’s eGate migration tool kit means IT departments can reduce time spent on replacing outdated technology and get on to the business of meeting health data exchange needs.”

Orion Health solutions use standards-based technology to integrate data within a facility and external partners without incurring costly rip and replace approaches. Currently the company helps facilities and healthcare communities that connect 35 million patients with tens of thousands of active users.

For seven consecutive years, Genesis Health System was again selected as one of the nation's 100 Most Wired hospitals and health systems - the most consecutive years on the list for any hospital or health system in Iowa. The 100 Most Wired hospitals and health systems are named by Hospitals & Health Networks magazine based on the use of information technology to accomplish key goals, including safety and quality objectives.
