Orion Health Rhapsody Integration Engine Achieves Record Message Processing Results

Top-Rated Solution Processes over 1.3 Million HL7 Messages Per Hour, for Faster Communication between Healthcare Applicationss

SANTA MONICA, Calif.- September 5, 2006 Orion Health, a leading provider of clinical workflow and integration technology for the healthcare sector, announces Rhapsody™ Integration Engine achieved high performance HL7 messaging throughput of 1.36 million messages per hour on an IBM P Series p570 high performance machine at IBM's Innovation Centre, Sydney, Australia.

Integration engines, also called integration brokers, provide message transformation and routing services, aiding communication between software programs. Using integration engines, healthcare providers can integrate data previously residing in separate applications without a costly investment in new software infrastructure.

Orion Health recently teamed with the globally-recognized IBM Innovation Centre in Sydney, Australia to undergo performance testing and analysis. Rhapsody Integration Engine was put through its paces to take advantage of high performance machines, and to achieve a superior performance for message processing.

"Having access to high performance hardware, and the ability to test on multiple configurations has enabled us to achieve record-breaking benchmarks for processing HL7 messages on both the UNIX and Windows platforms with our Rhapsody Integration Engine," said Paul de Bazin, Group General Manager for Orion Health Rhapsody.

"The scale of testing at the IBM Innovation Centre meant that we were able to gain a much greater understanding of the performance characteristics of Orion Rhapsody on a variety of hardware and software configurations. By creating complex customer-use scenarios we have identified barriers to maximum throughput and can now make recommendations to customers based on these test results," continues de Bazin.

Rhapsody was tested on IBM System p(R) hardware using IBM WebSphere(R) software with phenomenal results, demonstrating how maximum throughput can be achieved for Rhapsody customers.

Rhapsody was designed specifically for healthcare organizations, delivering the unique expertise and functionality required.

Worldwide, Orion Health is implementing health information communities involving over 35 million patients with tens of thousands of active users.
