Orion Health Recognized with Healthcare Transformation Company of the Year Award by the Canadian Health Informatics Technology Trade Association
SANTA MONICA, Calif.- Nov. 23, 2006 Orion Health, a leading provider of clinical workflow and integration technology for the healthcare sector, is honored to announce that the Canadian Healthcare Informatics Technology Trade Association (CHITTA) has recognized the company with the Healthcare Transformation of the Year Award.

Orion Health was nominated for this prestigious award by Capital Health in Edmonton, Canada's largest health region. Orion Health was nominated for their assistance in developing netCARE, a web-based clinical portal solution providing the ability to connect patient records across 13 hospitals, 22 public health centres and 15 clinics and community health centers.

The portal provides measurable improvements in patient outcomes. Clinicians are able to review laboratory and radiology tests that have been performed in the past, track results, and review patient admissions within all Capital Health facilities. This immediate access to online clinical information through an intuitive interface is beneficial for both the patient and the healthcare system. The availability of information has reduced the number of interventions by providing clinicians with up to date and comprehensive patient records. In addition, the amount of clerical time historically spent on accessing patient records from different data sources or facilities has been greatly reduced.

"Capital Health's netCARE project has had a significant impact on how physicians in the Calgary regions work and access information and how patients are cared for," says Paul Viskovich, Orion Health president, North American Operations.

"We're extremely honored that Capital Health and CHITTA recognized our part in the process and we're proud of the work we've accomplished together."

The portal has enjoyed a high adoption rates by clinicians, and has been embraced as a valuable tool in daily clinical activities. The portal has provided an infrastructure from which Capital Health can build on, for example, Capital Health has now integrated a disease management application which integrates seamlessly with the portal. This system allows clinicians and other health care staff to more effectively monitor and manage patients with chronic diseases such as diabetes.

Today netCARE has more than 9800 users, and the number has been growing at eight percent per month for the past year. Physicians represent the highest user group, accessing 46 percent of the data, while nurses represent 33 percent of the users.

The event, called the Annual Canadian Health Informatics Awards Gala, celebrates excellence in the utilization of information and technology to improve the health of Canadians. The event was co-hosted by COACH: Canada's Health Informatics Association and by CHITTA, The Canadian Healthcare Information Technology Trade Association.

CHITTA, the premier Canadian healthcare informatics association, established the Healthcare Transformation Award to recognize a for-profit healthcare ICT company that has fundamentally transformed healthcare in Canada through the use of health informatics.

Hans Franeulob, ICT Sector Director for New Zealand Trade and Entriprise said, "The Canadian market has proven very receptive to health information solutions from New Zealand. Orion Health is a leader in this area, and this award further demonstrates that their solutions are world-class. This success adds to the already strong reputation New Zealand enjoys as leaders in health technology. "
