| Team Orion Adventure wins The Turas! |
Auckland, June 25, 2008 - Team Orion Adventure is now top of the global leader board in the phenomenally fast-growing sport of Adventure Racing.![]() During the non-stop, 4-day event teams competed across 12 disciplines including trail running, mountain biking, navigating megalithic monuments, rope courses, rowing and kayaking on sea, lake and river. This is the second World Series Race win for Orion Health, following their win in Australia earlier this year, and puts them at the top of the global leader board in adventure racing. The race wasn’t lacking in adventure or true Irish hospitality. “The race was tough, with some very technical trekking and mountain biking legs, and a significant amount of challenging navigation. The race involved the communities all along the course, with festival events and a final Solstice party with local Irish bands at the prize giving. We were really impressed with the turnout of school children and party goes cheering us along at various stages of the race, giving it a unique Irish flavour”, said team leader Wayne Oxenham. The team are ecstatic to have won the event, with an added bonus of US$65,000 prize money. “The money is a huge bonus for us, as it’s our first really decent take home pay, but more was beating one of the strongest fields we’ve encountered in Adventure Racing in the past 3 years.” However, there is no rest for the team members. Wayne, Stuart and Anna are off competing in the Mountain X Race (France), in 28 days. Orion Health, proud sponsors of Team Orion Adventure, congratulates Anna, Brent, Stuart and Wayne on their very hard earned success! |
