A provider index allows you to search for physicians, dentists, hospital or health care facility within a network. A provider index or directory helps Health Care and Managed Care program members choose a health plan, find participating health care providers, hospitals, and pharmacies. A database index is a data structure that improves the speed of operations on a database table. Indexes provide the basis for both rapid random look ups and efficient access of ordered records. Orion Health's Provider Index (PI) creates and maintains a comprehensive and trusted directory of information about facilities, health professionals, organizations and the services they provide. It provides users with a comprehensive searchable directory and an authorization tool. PI is designed to handle the myriad of disparate data that exists among different healthcare organizations.
