Streamlining Operations with Electronic Lab Reporting System

 

Texas DSHS needed to integrate and automate data collection from a number of laboratories across the state. Data had to be collected and changed to HL7 format, allowing it to feed into the CDC's system.

 

The Need for Integration

An early participant in the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention’s NEDSS Messaging Solution (NMS) project, the Texas Department of State health Services (DSHS) was one of the first states to begin solving the problem of integrating laboratory data and feeding it into the CDC’s Public Health Information Network (PHIN).
