Mississippi Puts Technology to Work for a Healthier Future The Mississippi State Legislature authorized the MSDH to develop a registry program in 2008. The goal of the program was to obtain baseline and trend data on healthcare utilization and to identify previously missed opportunities to improve healthcare delivery and, ultimately, overall health. Another key goal was to provide policymakers with reliable and timely statewide healthcare utilization data required to prioritize funding for prevention and intervention initiatives. To accurately aggregate all of a patient’s information previously stored in disparate databases into one uniquely identified record while also insuring patient privacy, a comprehensive health data system needed to be created.
