The Nation’s Largest Statewide HIE Relies on Orion Health™ For Data Integration and Access HealthInfoNet is an independent nonprofit organization based in Portland, Maine that now operates what is believed to be currently the nation’s largest statewide health information exchanges (HIEs) using clinical data. Organized as a public-private partnership, HealthInfoNet is funded by a mixture of foundations, healthcare providers, the state and federal government, and other sources. HealthInfoNet has raised approximately $8 million to build the HIE, including $1.7 million from the State of Maine that allowed the HIE to go live, which will position Maine for federal matching funds expected to be available later in 2009 under the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act. When the HIE is fully operational statewide, HealthInfoNet expects to save as much as $37.2 million in avoided services and $15.6million in productivity savings for a total estimated annual savings of more than $50 million per year.
