Regional EHR Provides Clinicians Widespread Access to Patient Medical Records The Balearic region is an archipelago of four islands (Menorca, Mallorca, Ibiza, Formentera and Cabrera) located in eastern Spain. With 10 million visitors to the region each year, tourism is a mainstay of the local economy. Since 2002, the regional government has been responsible for providing healthcare services through the Ministry of Health and Consumer Protection of the Balearic Islands (IB Salut). To improve patient care and safety, IB Salut chose a portal-based electronic health record (EHR) solution to make medical records readily available and accessible to any health professional in any place that would care for them.
